Usually I try stay away from commercialised chains whether it be restaurants or cafes, but in this case La Renaissance was closed and Guylian Cafe was still open. I bought a selection of tarts – pear and almond, chocolate, lemon, blueberry and strawberry.

I was pleasantly surprised. Although I prefer La Renaissance and would still go there first, the tart pastry and fillings were all good. I liked the pear and almond because it wasn’t so sweet, more of an almond cake consistency. The strawberry was nice – the strawberries are juicy, but the custard is a tad too liquid and runny. There is a surprising thin milk chocolate layer inside. The blueberry was my favourite of the four as the the blueberries were sweet, without being coated in any way and were burst of freshness alongside the crusty tart exterior.

Although Guylian’s blueberry tart was very good, if you want to try the best blueberry tart I’ve eaten in Sydney, I would recommend paying a visit to Bacco Wine Bar. Bacco Wine Bar’s blueberry tart, actually made me stop my conversation mid-sentence. This doesn’t happen very often, I can assure you.

There is always plenty of seating at Guylian Belgian Chocolate Cafe, I’ve never seen this place at full capacity.
