I only just stumbled across this place recently. I have actually seen other Makanai stores throughout Sydney, but never felt the desire to go in.

But this is a very convenient work lunch place, so I thought why not give it a go.

Really enjoyed it.

9rb9HY1387572458sJtchg1387572284It’s not very expensive. Yet to try the salad roll looking sushi, which I snapped (above) at $3.50 a piece. Looks like a great light, healthy, on-the-go lunch. Though having said that, Makanai completely let you have any of the sushi in the cabinets as a dine-in option. Green tea is given complementary once you sit down, though sometimes they are a little slow and forget, unless you gently remind them.

As I went for the dine-in option, I had the tempura udon. The broth is not bad, not amazing, but very pleasant and huLLzY1387572518the udon noodles and tempura vegetable and 1jhMWo1387572492prawn pieces were what I had expected.

Their eel rice is done very well. The eel is very tender and almost melt in your mouth. The sushi and sashimi are also decent quality.

I found it pretty easy to get a table, if I get there around 12pm. If you come later, you may be hovering over those about to finish their meals.

All-in-all a nice casual lunch option.
